Vol. 55 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Native Fuel in Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the steps taken by him to secure that hospitals and other public institutions for the erection or reconstruction of which public money is made available shall be suitably equipped to enable them to use electricity or other native fuel for the purposes of heating or generating power, and if he will furnish a return showing in respect of all such institutions the number erected or reconstructed subsequent to January 1st, 1929, which were so equipped.

The use of electricity has been kept in view in connection with all plans for the erection or reconstruction of hospitals, and under the heading new works in the public assistance section of the annual report of the Department a list is given each year showing the progress effected. The reports up to the year ended 31st March, 1933, have been published. The information for the year ended 31st March, 1934, is being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy. The question of the use of peat is under consideration.
