Vol. 56 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milling in Excess of Quota.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in any instance during the past two years there was milled at a licensed mill an amount of wheat in excess of the quota for such mill; and, if so, whether he will state the amount of the excess and the sums paid by way of penalty in respect of such excess.

I am not in a position to give particulars of over-milling for the past two years. Part 2 of the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Act, 1933, was brought into operation on the 31st May, 1932, by a joint order by the Minister for Agriculture and myself. During the preliminary period from the 31st May, 1932, to the 31st July, 1932, there was over-milling at 16 mills. The amount of the excess was 15,343 barrels of 280 lbs. and the total of the sums demanded was £1,611 1s. 0d., and the total of the amounts paid was £1,608 18s. 4d. There was over-milling at 14 mills in the cereal year which began on the 1st August, 1933, and ended on the 31st July, 1934, to the extent of 93,085 barrels of 280 lbs., and the total of the sums demanded was £8,723 18s. 10d., all of which has been paid with the exception of £33 12s. 0d., which is in dispute.
