Vol. 56 No. 5

Written Answer. - Ballinamore Unemployment Claim.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that Pat Meehan, of Corraleehanbeg, Derrada, Ballinamore, applied for unemployment assistance about five months ago and, although he has no means and no employment since, he has not been granted any benefit, and if he is aware that his younger brother, who is circumstanced in the same way, has been drawing unemployment assistance during the whole period.

For the reasons stated in reply to a number of questions addressed to me by Deputy Curran on the 12th December last I cannot, for the present and some time to come, see my way to reply to questions regarding individual applications for Unemployment Assistance. In the circumstances of this case, however, I can inform the Deputy that Patrick J. Meehan, Corraleehan Beg, Derrada P.O., Ballinamore, Co. Cavan, was not entitled to Unemployment Assistance on the application made by him at Belturbet on 20th December, 1934, for the reasons that he allowed his application to lapse and he was entitled to Unemployment Benefit under the Unemployment Insurance Acts. He was paid Unemployment Benefit on his claim of 31st December, 1934, made at Belturbet, and his credit in the Unemployment Fund is not completely exhausted. Unemployment Assistance is not payable to any person who is entitled to receive Unemployment Benefit.
