Vol. 56 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of State Workers for Catholic Holidays.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is prepared to make arrangements for the payment of wages to workers employed on Land Improvement Schemes and on Forestry Work in respect of Catholic holidays on which they are not required to work.

Unskilled labourers engaged on Land Improvement Work and Forestry Work are employed on a daily basis, and at present have no claim for payment of wages for days not worked, whether holidays or otherwise.

The Department will be guided in its future arrangements by the final terms of legislation governing Conditions of Employment at present before the Dáil, in so far as these Conditions affect its activities.
