asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the annual life premium income of the non-Irish assurance companies operating in the Irish Free State totals £2,631,313 in respect to 1931, the latest year for which returns are available, and if he can state what were the amounts paid by the assurance companies referred to in (a) endowments and death benefits; (b) salaries and sundry expenses; (c) overhead charges, rents, rates, taxes, bank charges and repairs; (d) income tax, including tax on officials' salaries; (e) stamp duty, postage, bonds and loans; and (f) cash surrenders and investments.

All the information at my disposal is contained in the statements of assurance business deposited with me under Section 7 of the Assurance Companies Act, 1909. The statements in respect of the accounting periods which ended during the year 1931 were laid on the Table of the House on 4th instant.
