Vol. 57 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Thoroughbred Stallions and Income Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of owners of thoroughbred stallions and the number of thoroughbred stallions in respect of which (a) assessments were made for income tax, and (b) income tax was collected in each of the years 1932-33, 1933-34, and 1934-35.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of revenue collected in respect of income tax assessed on owners of thoroughbred stallions in each of the years 1932-33, 1933-34, and 1934-35.

I propose to take Nos. 12 and 13 together. Owing to the fact that assessments for the years 1933-34 and 1934-35 are held up pending a decision in the Supreme Court, no final figures can be supplied for those years. Subject to the decision in the Supreme Court, the revenue (income tax and surtax) assessed and collectable in respect of stallion fees is anticipated to be approximately £10,000 for 1932-33, £7,500 for 1933-34, and £6,300 for 1934-35. The number of owners of thoroughbred stallions concerned is estimated at 31 for 1932-33, 26 for 1933-34, and 25 for 1934-35; while the number of thoroughbred stallions involved in the assessments is estimated at 46 for 1932-33, 38 for 1933-34, and 38 for 1934-35.
