Vol. 57 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disability Pension to Widow.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state what is the delay in paying a pension to Mrs. Agnes Murtagh, Goresbridge, County Kilkenny, widow of the late Sergeant M. Murtagh, who died as a result of hardship received on active service with the Volunteers in 1920 and 1921; and if he is aware that Michael Murtagh was a prisoner in Mountjoy in 1921 and was sentenced to penal servitude, and that he later served in the National Army, and that his widow is now destitute and that she is suffering from acute heart trouble; and if he will state when she may expect payment.

Mrs. Agnes Murtagh, Goresbridge, County Kilkenny, made application under the Army Pensions Act, 1932, in respect of the death of her husband, Michael.

Mrs. Murtagh's application is at present under investigation by the Military Service Registration Board, which is experiencing difficulty in obtaining particulars of deceased's military service during the period 1921-1922. If the Deputy is in a position to furnish details of deceased's service during that period, it will materially assist the Board in bringing its investigations to a conclusion.

I can assure the Minister that I have already supplied such information as I could at the time. I am now in a position to furnish some further information if it is desired.
