Vol. 59 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral—Answers. - Division of Limerick Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when the Irish Land Commission will assent to the application of the tenants of the lands of Knockbrien (Kearney Estate—S.3921, County Limerick—Collection No. K.359/1) for the division of land, and the settlement of the question of the revised annuity of each of them; and if he is aware that the delay in the carrying out of the above application is the cause of the trustee not being able to collect and pay the annuities due on these lands.

In the return of particulars furnished to the Land Commission under Section 40 of the Land Act of 1923 in respect of the Kearney Estate, the lands of Knockbrien to which the Deputy refers, containing 75 acres 2 roods 8 perches, were described as being in the sole occupation of John Clohessy.

The Land Commission were subsequently informed that these lands were held in trust by John Clohessy for himself and seven others.

The question of the subdivision of the holding and the apportionment of the annuity is under consideration and will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible, but the Land Commission are not in a position at present to state when the matter will be completed.

Considering that the applications are in the region of 14 years under consideration, does the Parliamentary Secretary not consider it unreasonable to press these men? Will he ask the Land Commission to speed up the matter? It seems that these men have been constantly chased for six years with warrants for the annuities.

The matter is being dealt with at the moment.

Is 14 years' consideration a long period for the Land Commission?
