Vol. 59 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Utility Societies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he had caused an inquiry to be made into the profits earned for individual promoters of Public Utility Societies registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts; whether he is aware that several such societies are carried on for profit and advantage of the persons primarily responsible for promoting them and whether he will take steps to secure that the advantages conferred by the State on Public Utility Societies engaged in house building will be passed on to the individual citizens for whom they were mainly intended.

The answers to the first two parts of the question are in the negative. With regard to the third part of the question no evidence has been produced to me that the grants under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts, 1932 and 1934 paid to Public Utility Societies have been improperly applied.
