Vol. 59 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licences to Bacon and Pigs Marketing Board.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has issued any licence to the Bacon Marketing Board or to the Pigs Marketing Board to cure bacon; and, if so, what are the terms of the licence, for what period will it operate and in respect of how many pigs are they licensed to act as curers.

A licence to cure bacon has not been issued either to the Bacon Marketing Board or to the Pigs Marketing Board.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that the recent catastrophe for pig buyers in this country has largely been brought about by the failure of the Pigs Marketing Board to undertake the curing of pigs in time to prevent a glut in the pig markets of the country, and will he consider making representations to the Pigs Marketing Board that they are to be more prompt in the issuing of licences in the future and in giving every facility to people to market and cure their pigs?

Dr. Ryan

The Deputy is asking another question. There was no catastrophe in the case of the pig producers—

No catastrophe—it is well for the Minister.

He will know something about it before the week is out.
