Vol. 59 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Identification Marks on Cattle's Right Ears.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that farmers and stock owners who had identification marks pierced through the right ears of cattle previous to the issuing of the British Order on this matter are presently suffering severe loss and hardship; if he has made representations to the British Ministry suggesting a means of overcoming this temporary difficulty, and, if so, what reply, if any, he has received to his representations.

Dr. Ryan

I am aware of the consequences to stock owners in this country of the ineligibility for certification under the subsidy scheme in Great Britain of cattle with markings in the right ear imported into the British market. I have had suitable action taken in the matter, but I am not yet in a position to communicate the outcome of that action.
