Vol. 61 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices Commission Investigation.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the investigations on which the Prices Commission is now engaged and the date on which it is expected these investigations will be concluded.

The only investigation which the commission has at present in hand is an investigation under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, into the cost in Saorstát Eireann of all materials and appliances used in the building of houses. The commission reports that it hopes that this investigation will be completed at an early date.

In view of the misunderstanding that exists in the minds of all Deputies regarding the Minister's interpretation of "early date," will he say why it is not possible for this commission to give continuous consideration to the question now before them so that a report will be available at a reasonably early date?

I think that the commission's interpretation of "early date" is the same as my own.

How many hours per week does this commission sit?

That depends entirely on the business the commission has in hands.

Can the Minister say what is the average number of hours per week the commission sat during the past six months?

The Deputy will have to make his own deductions from the published report, which is available.

If the "early date" never comes how will we get the published report?

The report has been published.
