Vol. 61 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Footwear.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the prices of boots and shoes have been substantially advanced by Irish manufacturers since the beginning of the year, and whether he has any information as to the reason for these advances.

Complaints in an indefinite form have been received as to prices charged by Saorstát manufacturers of boots and shoes, and these complaints are being investigated. If it be found that there is any foundation for the complaints, I propose to send a requisition to the Prices Commission requiring them to investigate the prices charged by manufacturers for boots and shoes.

Has the Minister adverted to the fact that the principal reason for any increase which has taken place in the price of boots and shoes, in the case of the older manufacturers at any rate, is that other tariffs which the Minister has put on the raw materials of boots and shoes have made their manufacture more expensive?
