Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Appeals.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state how many appeals in respect of claims to unemployment assistance have been lodged with his Department during the year 1935-36, and how many of these appeals have been dealt with.

At the commencement of the year which ended on the 31st March, 1936, there were 39 appeals to the courts of referees in respect of applications for unemployment assistance awaiting consideration. During that year, 10,381 similar appeals were lodged. The courts dealt with 10,371 appeals in the course of the year, and at the end of the year there were still awaiting consideration 49 appeals.
