Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scarlet Fever Cases.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state how many cases of (a) scarlet fever, (b) small-pox, were notified in the Free State in the years 1934 and 1935; how many cases of those two diseases were notified from 1925 to 1933, and what was the annual death rate per million of the population from small-pox and scarlet fever in the year 1935.

The information asked in the various parts of the question is as follows:—

The number of cases of scarlet fever notified to local authorities in 1934 was 3,271 and in 1935, 2,282. No case of small-pox was notified in either of these two years. During the years 1925 to 1933 inclusive the total number of cases of scarlet fever notified was 21,008. No cases of small-pox were notified during these years. The deathrate from small-pox per million of the population in 1935 was—Nil. The death rate from scarlet fever per million of the population in 1935 was 30.
