Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Research Work in Saorstát.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will furnish particulars of the financial assistance given to research workers and special Research Committees engaged on research or investigation likely to be beneficial to Saorstát industry or to assist in the use of its raw materials.

Since the beginning of the last financial year grants amounting to £375 have been made available to research workers in connection with investigations into the biochemical aspects of carrageen, the extraction of waxes from peat and the technical application of fatty oils derived from Irish-grown plants. Payments to date amount to £212 10s. 0d.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state in respect of the years 1930 to 1935, inclusive, the number and amount of grants made to students for training in scientific or industrial research and the conditions under which such grants were given.

A statement containing the information desired by the Deputy will be circulated with the Official Report.
