Vol. 64 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Observance of Wage Clause.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether it is the practice of his Department to pay grants under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, before being satisfied that the provisions of Section 8 of the Act in regard to wages and conditions of employment have been complied with; whether it is a fact that in correspondence addressed to the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union, his Department admits that grants were paid without investigation as to rates of pay observed by the recipient and intimated that no investigation will be undertaken after the grants have been paid; further, whether it is his intention to institute proceedings for recovery of the amount of the grant where it is shown to his Department that in fact the provisions of Section 8 of the Act were not complied with.

The answers to the first and second parts of the question are in the affirmative, and to the third part in the negative.
