Vol. 66 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boundary Fence Between Mayo Townlands

asked the Minister for Finance whether an inspector from the Office of Public Works in April, 1934, inspected the dilapidated boundary fence between the townlands of Stonefield and Carrowteige, in County Mayo; whether a report was received from the inspector regarding the condition of the fence and the need for having it reconstructed; whether he is aware that the reconstruction of the fence in question is regarded locally as a necessary public work, and whether he will state if any decision has been reached as to whether the work will be carried out; and, if so, what has caused the delay in doing so.

The proposal for the repair of a boundary fence between the townlands of Stonefield and Carrowteige, County Mayo, was inspected and reported on by a Board of Works inspector in April, 1934. The repair and maintenance of boundary fences is regarded as being a matter for the landholders concerned, and unless under exceptional circumstances indicating public utility are not included under minor employment schemes. This proposal is being considered on its merits relative to other works proposed for the district. Suitable works have, however, been executed under minor employment schemes in the district electoral division concerned in the years 1933-34 to the extent of £100; 1934-35, £176; 1935-36, £175; and 1936-37 to the extent of £510.
