Vol. 67 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carrick-on-Suir and Carrickbeg Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what is the cause of the delay in giving sanction for the erection of 95 houses on the old workhouse site in Carrick-on-Suir and the scheme for the erection of 12 houses in Carrickbeg; whether he is aware that this scheme has been under consideration for two years, and if he will indicate what steps he proposes taking to expedite its consideration by his Department.

On the basis of the tenders received the cost of these schemes is very high. The position has, therefore, to be carefully considered in relation to the financial capacity of the urban district as the rates therein are over 19/- in the £.

The 12 house scheme referred to was postponed by the urban council themselves in October last on the ground of excessive cost in view of the type of tenant proposed. The matter is to be discussed at the Department this week with representatives and officials of the council.
