Vol. 67 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Board's Milk Supplies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that a unanimous resolution was passed by the Dublin Board of Assistance asking for permission to obtain their milk supplies from the contributary area; (2) if he is aware that the milk for the Dublin Board of Assistance is now obtained under a contract for 470 gallons of milk per diem placed at 3¾d. under the price fixed by the Government; (3) if he is also aware that milk traders have recently been prosecuted for selling milk below the price fixed by the Government; and (4) if it is the intention of the Minister to put an end to this anomalous situation.

I am aware that the board of assistance approved of a suggestion contained in a resolution of the Dublin District Milk Board to the effect stated in the first part of the question and that they asked for sanction to the proposal.

As regards the second part of the question no price is fixed for milk produced within the Dublin production district that is supplied to institutions or other bodies for their own use, and it is, accordingly, incorrect to state that the contract entered into by the board of assistance is 3¾d. under the price fixed by the Government.

As regards the third and fourth parts of the question I am not aware of any such action as is referred to nor of any anomalous situation which calls for my intervention.

Arising out of the reply given by the Parliamentary Secretary, I wish to ask if I am correct in understanding that there is no price fixed for the supply of milk to institutions or public bodies?

That is so.
