Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cotton Thread Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is satisfied that the undertakings given by the concessionaire of the cotton thread monopoly in this country are being carried out.

The prices charged by the Irish Sewing Cotton Company, Ltd., have been under examination in my Department for some time past, and discussions with the company have not yet been concluded. In other respects I am satisfied that the conditions attached to the licence are being observed.

Has the Minister at last discovered that the Westport thread company is charging more for thread in Westport than its parent firm is charging in England?

It took the Minister a long time to find that out.

I have not discovered it yet.

The Minister will.
