Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Mayo Rivers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the Mayo County Council forwarded several resolutions to his Department requesting the drainage of the Gweston, Pollock and Yellow rivers; and if he will now state the cause of the delay in formulating a scheme for the drainage of those rivers.

The Commissioners of Public Works have from time to time received copies of resolutions from the Mayo County Council regarding the Pollock and Yellow Rivers drainage scheme, the last having been sent on the 11th November, 1936.

The preparation of a drainage scheme in this case involved a detailed revaluation of the affected lands and a further and more exhaustive survey of the district, which, due to heavy pressure of other urgent work on the engineering staff, necessarily occupied a considerable time. The results of the valuation and survey are being considered.
