Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fixation of Milk Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has received resolutions passed by both Cork and Dublin District Milk Boards requesting him to amend the Milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936, so as to enable the boards to fix the minimum retail price of milk to the consumer; if it is his intention to introduce such amendments; and, if so, when.

I have not received resolutions from the Dublin and Cork District Milk Boards in the specific terms mentioned in the question. I am, however, aware that certain sections of these boards are in favour of having the powers conferred on me by Section 52 of the Milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936, extended so as to include the fixation of minimum retail prices to the consumer. I do not consider that any adequate reasons have been advanced for conferring on the milk boards or on myself the power to fix minimum retail prices.
