Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reduction of Agricultural Wages.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that large numbers of farmers who paid more than 24/- per week to their agricultural labourers previous to the coming into operation of the Agricultural Wages Act, have now reduced wages to the minimum rate laid down in the Act referred to, and if he will state what steps, if any, he has taken or intends taking to protect the workers concerned.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative; the second part of the question does not therefore arise.

If the Minister is furnished with particulars of cases where gentlemen farmers, if you like, and others have acted in the manner indicated in the question, will he give an undertaking to take some action in the matter?

I could not take any more action than the Deputy—that is, pass them on to the local committees.
