Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the names of the persons in County Cork awarded pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, and the amount awarded in each case.

The list is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Deputy when ready.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (a) the number of applicants for military service pensions in County Cavan, (b) how many have been called up for investigation, and (c) how many have been granted; also, if he can state when the other applicants will be called.

Owing to the large number of applications received under the Act and to the fact that applications are not investigated on a county basis, it is not practicable to state the number of applicants for military service pensions in County Cavan or how many from that county have been called up for investigation. From the brigade areas comprised in the county, however, the numbers which have been called up for investigation are as follows:—

West Cavan Brigade

29

3rd Brigade, 5th Northern Division

15

3rd Brigade, 1st Eastern Division (Meath Brigade)

67

Four pensions have been granted to applicants resident in County Cavan.

It is not possible to state when the remaining applicants from the three brigade areas mentioned will be called.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, will he say whether it is possible to all to deal with the names of applicants on a county basis?

Wherever the old units coincide with the county boundaries, it might be possible.

But otherwise not?

It would be difficult. It could be done, but it would entail a considerable amount of trouble.
