Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Clare Ranch Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when it is proposed to acquire and distribute amongst landless men and uneconomic holders the ranch land at Gowlaun, Ballyconnoe, Ballygastle, Ballydonohue, Ballyinsheen, all in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of some 75 acres in the townland of Ballygasteel, but are not yet in a position to say if or when these lands may be acquired.

Inquiries are being made regarding an area of some 301 acres in the townlands of Gowlaun, Ballydonohue and Ballyconnoe North and South, and on the completion of these inquiries the question of the acquisition of this area will be considered.

As a result of inquiries made regarding some 64 acres in the townlands of Ballyinsheen More and Ballygasteel, the Land Commission have decided to take no action for acquisition.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that there is much discontent amongst uneconomic holders and landless men of that area because of all this land lying waste that could be put into commission, and is he aware that an agitation in this connection has been going on for the past three years?
