Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claims of Evicted Tenants.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what the present policy of the Land Commission is with regard to the reinstatement of evicted tenants or their representatives, and if he will state what progress is being made towards the adjustment of the large number of outstanding claims of evicted tenants.

Mr. Boland

On the general question of the reinstatement of evicted tenants I would refer the Deputy to page 28 of the last published Report of the Land Commission (up to the 31st March, 1936) where a section is devoted to that subject.

Applications from genuine evicted tenants or their representatives are sympathetically considered by the Land Commission in connection with the allotment of untenanted land, but they have to be taken in conjunction with other claims for land. Progress in the settlement of outstanding applications depends largely on local circumstances, but every effort is being made by the Land Commission to find suitable land where possible.
