Vol. 69 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fencing of Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why the plots attached to the cottages at Ballyhughes, Gort, County Galway, are not yet suitably fenced.

As the Deputy was informed on 3rd March, 1937, I called the board's attention to the need for repairing the boundary wall and providing efficient internal fences to eight cottages at Ballyhughes, Gort, County Galway. The board's engineer reported on 23rd April that he had arranged with the contractor for the St. Colman's Terrace plots to build a small boundary wall on the frontage of the Ballyhughes plots and do a little general repair work. He added that the plots were fenced by the Gort District Council years ago. The board agreed to allow £20 for repair to boundary wall and £12 for repair to dividing fences and applied for approval of this expenditure. On 11th May we requested a specification for this work. The specification was not furnished until 17th August last, when the cost was estimated to be £54 4s. 0d. As the work appears necessary I have approved the expenditure, subject to the board being satisfied as to their liability for the carrying out of the work. The matter will be further considered by the board on the 23rd instant.

Am I to take it that the work will now be proceeded with, so that the plots will not be in danger, as at present, from cattle trespassing along the roads?

You can presume that if you wish.

Is the Minister going to give me any grounds upon which to base that presumption?
