Vol. 69 No. 7

Written Answers. - Westmeath Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if the various relief schemes submitted from the Castletown-Geoghegan and Dysart areas, in the County Westmeath, during the last three years have been inspected, and, if so, what allocation under the minor relief schemes has been made during 1937-38 for these areas towards the relief of unemployment.

For the purpose of ascertaining boundaries, the Minister is not aware of any official territorial unit called Castletown-Geoghegan. Fourteen proposals for minor employment schemes in the electoral divisions of Castletown and Dysart have been submitted in the past three years, and inspections have been made in every case with the exception of a proposal received on 16th October, 1937, which has not yet been dealt with. An allocation of £95 has been made from the Vote for Employment Schemes, 1937-38, for the electoral division of Castletown. It was necessary to group the electoral division of Dysart with the two adjoining electoral divisions, Greenpark and Churchtown, for the purpose of finding a sufficient number of unemployment assistance recipients to form a gang, and an allocation of £100 has been made from the Vote for Employment Schemes, 1937-38, for this joint area.
