Vol. 69 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Malahide Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention has been called to the failure of the water supply in Malahide, County Dublin; whether he is aware that the health of the people of the district is imperilled by the defectiveness of the system, and whether he will indicate what steps he proposes taking to deal with the matter.

My attention has been called to a temporary shortage, which occurred in the Malahide water supply system during the recent dry period. I am not aware that the health of the people of the district is imperilled by any defectiveness in the system. I was informed by the Dublin Board of Health on the 15th ultimo that there had been very little interruption in the supply of water in Malahide and that arrangements are now in operation which are capable of providing ample water for the district.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there has been such an increase in disease in Malahide that, in fact, one terrace in which a number of cases of diphtheria have occurred, is now called Diphtheria Terrace?
