Vol. 69 No. 8

Additional Estimate. - Sea Fisheries (Protection of Immature Fish) Bill, 1937—Report and Final Stages.

I move:—

In page 7, line 1, Section 9 (7), to delete the words "known to" and substitute the words "reasonably believed by".

A question was raised by Deputy McGowan as to whether it would be possible for officers of the law in all cases to be able to state that a person in question would be known to give a false name or a false address. I undertook to look into the matter and I think the phrase "reasonably believed by" is preferable to "known to". It would give the officers a better chance of carrying out their duties and it would facilitate proceedings in court afterwards.

Amendment put and agreed to.
Bill received for final consideration and passed.

Three Bills in 40 minutes! More obstruction.
