Vol. 71 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Improvement Works.

asked the Minister for Finance if representations have been made to him with reference to the drainage of Kildalkey bog in County Meath, and the reconstruction of the main road from Athboy to the Hill of Down; and if, in view of the fact that there are large numbers of men unemployed in the district, he will expedite the initiation of a scheme.

An application was received from the local landholders for the drainage of a small stream leading from a bog in the townland of Kildalkey and the proposal was inspected. The work was considered suitable for execution during the summer months only, and the number of registered unemployment assistance recipients in the area, according to the latest available returns is insufficient to warrant a grant from the allocation for summer drainage schemes, 1938.

The reconstruction of the main road form Athboy to the Hill of Down would appear to be a matter for the local authority.
