Vol. 73 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Future of Tipperary Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands when he proposes to take over the O'Halloran estate, Lurgoe, Killenaule, Thurles, which is at present derelict; and if he will state what was the report of the inspectors who visited this estate.

Mr. Boland

At the present stage of the proceedings the Land Commission are not in a position to state whether or when they will take over the O'Halloran estate at Lurgoe, but the matter will be expedited as much as possible.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps the Land Commission have taken to acquire the Fitzgerald estates, Springhill and Kilboy, Killenaule, Thurles, County Tipperary, which have been set in the 11 months' system for a number of years; and if he will ensure that such lands are taken over without delay and divided amongst the suitable applicants.

Mr. Boland

The Deputy's question would appear to refer to the holding of Susan Fitzgerald containing 17a. 0r. 10p. of the lands of Springhill, on the Hemphill estate, Record No. S.4982, County Tipperary. The Land Commission have at present under consideration the question of resuming these lands, but at the present stage of the proceedings it is not possible to state whether or when they will be acquired.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what is the cause of the delay in dividing the Hanley estates, Ballynonty, Lainspark, Derryville and Cloneyharp; whether these lands have been fully acquired by the Land Commission; and, if so, when they will be divided.

Mr. Boland

The lands on the Hanley estates to which the Deputy refers have not yet been acquired by the Land Commission. Negotiations are proceeding with the owners in respect of some 1,500 acres of untenanted land which the Land Commission propose to acquire. Proceedings are also being taken for the resumption of two holdings on the Cobden estate and one holding on the Jones estate, of which the representatives of the late W.P. Hanley are the tenants, but action in this respect is dependent on the acquisition of the untenanted lands referred to. It is intended to have a comprehensive scheme prepared covering all the lands in question.
