Vol. 73 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Harbour Piers.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received a resolution adopted by the Cork County Council at their meeting held on 2nd December, 1937, urging the Government to take steps to assist the county council to repair and maintain timber piers at Monkstown, Ringaskiddy, East Ferry, Aghada and Currabinny, which exist within the limits of Cork Harbour; if he is aware that owing to the damaged state of the wooden structures at Ringaskiddy the transport of workmen to their work at Haulbowline is attended with considerable danger, and the transport of milk and agricultural produce rendered impossible; and if he will now state if he is prepared to empower by legislation the county council to expend a moiety in conjunction with the Cork Harbour Board to repair and maintain these important structures or some of them.

The resolution referred to was received and my Department has since been in communication with the Department of Industry and Commerce on the matter. A decision has not yet been reached.

Would the Minister say if a decision can be reached within a reasonable time?

I could not say.

My reason for asking is that the workmen cannot reach their work, and agricultural produce is stopped from being transported.
