asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Prices Commission has received representations from Eoghan O'Brien, Esq., in respect of the prices charged by motor assembly firms requesting the commission to examine the premises and books of these firms; and, if so, whether the commission has taken any action in respect of these representations.

The Prices Commission has received representations from the person named in respect of the prices charged by motor assembly firms in this country. Informal negotiations have proceeded between the Prices Commission and various motor assemblers as a result of which reductions in certain makes have already been announced and reductions in the case of some other makes may be expected in the near future.
Is the Minister aware that the person named in the question addressed an inquiry to the Prices Commission nine months ago and is still waiting for any coherent reply from that body?
The Prices Commission have taken action.
I said that it was not coherent. They replied in the incoherent manner to which Government Departments are prone. Can the Minister explain, if as a result of action taken by this individual, substantial reductions are being made or will be made in the exorbitant prices being charged for motor cars?
The reductions have been made.
