Vol. 73 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Clearance Charges.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has completed his inquiries into investigating the possibilities of securing a withdrawal or modification of customs clearance charges in the case of consignments of agricultural or dairy produce exported to Great Britain, and if he has any information in his Department of the amounts collected by way of these charges on agricultural and dairy produce.

My Department's inquiries as to the possibility of securing a modification of the existing scale of customs clearance charges applicable to dairy produce and other agricultural commodities which require to be accompanied by a certificate of origin in order to secure free entry into the United Kingdom have not yet been completed. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.

Is the Minister aware of any hope of having these charges abolished or modified?

Not abolished, I am afraid, but there may be some hope, otherwise.

Do you expect to have them modified?

I hope so.

Do you think that essential?

I think it is desirable, anyway.
