Vol. 76 No. 3

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Beara Travelling Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (1) the average daily mileage covered by the travelling creamery in the district of Beara; (2) the average number of gallons of milk daily dealt with; (3) the average daily costs of operating the creamery; and (4) if the results justify an extension of the radius of the creamery in that area.

(1) The three travelling creameries operating in the district of Beara cover 24 miles, 25 miles and 28 miles, respectively, per day; (2) the peak day supplies for the three premises last year were 872 gallons, 881 gallons and 785 gallons, respectively. Supplies towards the beginning and the end of the season would, of course, be much smaller; (3) as the creameries concerned did not begin operations until 1938, it would be premature at this stage to prepare daily costs of working; (4) the results so far available would not justify an extension of the radius of any of the creameries in the area.
