asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total number of new holdings (as distinct from enlargements of existing uneconomic holdings) provided by the Land Commission on the division of untenanted land in each of the years ended 31st March, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939, and the total amount of acres involved annually in such provision.
I propose to take together the Deputy's two questions as to the provision respectively of enlargements and new holdings on the division of untenanted land by the Land Commission.
The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated in the Official Reports of Dáil Debates. This statement gives as much of the information desired by the Deputy as is at present available.
The statement is as follows:—
Number and area (approximate) of (1) enlargements of existing uneconomic holdings and (2) new farm holdings or (2a) new accommodation and turbary plots, etc. (other than farms), provided on the division of untenanted land by the Land Commission under the Land Acts, 1923-36 in each of the financial years from 1932-33 to 1937-38. (The classified figures for the year 1938-39 are not yet available).
