Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fertilisers Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether it is intended to make arrangements to have an adequate supply of artificial manures made available to farmers at the prices prevailing during the past year, so as to enable them to till the extra acreage required under the compulsory tillage scheme.

As already announced a scheme for the supply of fertilisers to fanners at reduced prices on the lines of that in operation last season has been adopted. The subsidy or rebate will be at the rate of 10/- per ton and will apply to superphosphate, potassic superphosphate, compound manures and complete fertilisers of home manufacture. The arrangements for securing supplies of artificial manures come within the province of the Minister for Supplies who is giving special attention to this matter.
