Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mixed Feeding Stuffs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will make an order permitting the sale of mixed feeding stuffs pending the arrival of full supplies of maize and, if so, whether he will prescribe by order suitable mixtures in terms of named ingredients to be known as "approved mixtures" without requiring during this emergency period the expensive necessity of printing on the container of such mixtures details of their constituents.

The requirements of the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Acts in relation to the milling of maize and the manufacture of compound feeding stuffs have been suspended as from 1st September last. Maize millers and manufacturers of compound feeding stuffs are at liberty to manufacture either a maize meal mixture or compound feeding stuffs with whatever materials they have available subject only to the requirements of the Fertilisers and Feeding Stuffs Act, 1906, which provides, inter alia, that vendors of artificially prepared feeding stuffs shall state on invoice the percentages of oil and albumenoids. It is, therefore, not proposed to make any order such as the Deputy suggests.

Will the Minister refer to that further in his statement?

If the Deputy wishes, yes.
