Vol. 80 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reports of Transport Tribunal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is the intention of the Government to publish the reports of the Transport Tribunal presented to him in August, 1939, and, if so, whether he will state when these reports will be made available to the public; if not, whether he will state on what grounds they have been withheld from publication.

There is no change in the position in regard to this matter indicated in reply to the Deputy's question of the 8th November last on the subject of transport reorganisation.

In view of the fact that this tribunal was established by legislation passed by this House and at the public expense, will the Minister state the reason why members of this House, which was responsible for the creation of this tribunal, have been refused copies of these reports?

It is usual where reports refer to questions of great importance not to circulate copies until the Government and the Department concerned has had an opportunity to consider them and to formulate decisions in regard to these reports.

In view of the fact that the reports were furnished to the Minister in August of last year, surely that was sufficiently long for the Minister and his predecessor to make up their minds whether they will publish the reports or not.
