asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that in consequence of the increase in building costs, local authorities find it impossible to proceed with the erection of houses to cater for the pressing needs of persons living in overcrowded and slum areas; that if subsidy were paid on the full cost of a house, and the pre-war rate of interest reverted to, houses could be let at a pre-war rent; and whether in view of these facts he will take steps to have these concessions granted, and thereby enable local authorities to provide the much-needed houses and also employment for the large number of building workers now unemployed.
