Vol. 85 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions for Electricity Supply Board Employees.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is in a position to announce the date of the introduction of proposals for legislation to enable pensions to be provided for employees of the Electricity Supply Board.

It is anticipated that the legislation referred to will be introduced in the present session but I am not in a position to announce a specific date.

Is the Minister aware that his predecessor, before he confessed to physical exhaustion in connection with the Trade Union Bill, promised that a Bill on this subject would be introduced before the Summer Recess? Having regard to that promise made by the predecessor of the Minister before his removal to another Department, will the Minister endeavour to give some definite date on which this legislation will be introduced?

Does the Minister not regard himself as bound by the now apparently reckless statements of his predecessor?

I have nothing to add to the reply I have already given.

That means "no", too.
