Vol. 85 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Limited Liability Firms.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of public limited liability firms (excluding the five non-national banks and insurance companies) now operating in this country; and of these how many are incorporated in England.

The latest date to which classified particulars relating to companies are available is the 31st December, 1940. Excluding companies in course of liquidation or removal from the Register, the number of public limited liability companies incorporated in this country as at that date was 362. The number of public companies incorporated outside Ireland which, according to the records filed with the Registrar of Companies, had places of business here on the 31st December, 1940, was 116, excluding the banks and the insurance companies referred to in the Deputy's question. Of this number, 99 were incorporated in England.

The remaining questions for oral answers will be answered to-morrow. The House has taken an hour to dispose of 43 questions.

May I ask if it is proposed that the House should sit to-morrow?

So I understand.

Could we get some idea——

When the order of business is being arranged, the Deputy will have an opportunity of asking the Minister for his proposals. Questions 1 and 2 addressed to the Minister for External affairs will be taken now.
