Vol. 85 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carriage of Turf by Rail.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state over what period since the year 1931 was an order by the Railway Tribunal in operation confirming the rate of 6/- per ton for the carriage of turf by rail; and if he will say over what period or periods since then the rate was actually in operation, and if he will state the rate or rates which immediately superseded the 6/- a ton rate.

The Railway Tribunal fixed the 3rd August, 1933, as the date on which the uniform rate of 6/- per ton for the carriage of turf by the Great Southern Railways should become operative. The 6/- rate ceased to operate on the 19th October, 1936, on which date the uniform rate order, under which it was fixed, was revoked. The rate was immediately superseded by exceptional rates varying from 4/- to 11/- per ton according to the distance involved.
