Vol. 86 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cavan L.D.F. Compensation Claim.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether an application for compensation has been made by Mr. Patrick Smyth, Glasscarrick, Loughduff, County Cavan, in respect of serious injury which disabled him for life, accidentally caused by his gun going off while Mr. Smyth was out on manoeuvres with his company of the L.D.F. at Bruskey, on July 27th, 1941; and whether compensation has been granted, and if not, why not.

A claim for compensation for injuries has not been received from Mr. Smyth, but representations have been made to me on his behalf. It is anticipated that a scheme for compensation for injuries contracted by members of the L.D.F. on duty will shortly be prepared. In the meantime, it is hoped to deal with the case of Mr. Smyth on an interim basis with the least possible delay.
