Vol. 87 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Wool.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has any information in regard to the demand and prices for wool and the prospects for the purchase of this season's clip.

My information is that there is a good demand for all descriptions of wool suitable for the home woollen manufacturing trade at prices up to 2d. per lb. higher than the average paid for such wool over the past three seasons.

The present prices for these descriptions are regarded as remunerative, and are not likely to be advanced. Flock owners should, therefore, market their wool without delay, as it is unlikely anything will be gained by holding it.

The demand for coarse wools, including black face, which have hitherto been exported, is not so good owing to the contraction of the American market for that particular grade, and it is unlikely that there will be any improvement in the prices at present being paid for these wools.
