It is the practice of my Department to consider applications for the grant of special allowances of petrol during the harvesting season from farmers and lorry owners who are genuinely engaged in the transport of substantial quantities of grain. Each case is considered on its merits and an essential requirement is that alternative means of transport where available must be used to the maximum possible extent.
