Vol. 88 No. 13

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that there are 13 families, comprising approximately 100 persons, living in board of health and urban council cottages at Parkgarriffe, Monkstown, County Cork, who have no water supply within half a mile of their homes; that the provision of a pump to furnish a supply of fresh water was recommended to the South Cork Board of Health by the county medical officer of health in October, 1939, as a work of urgency, but because some of the houses happened to be within the urban area of Passage West, the erection of a pump by the board of health has not been proceeded with; and if he will state what steps he intends to take now to end this state of affairs.

I understand that there are approximately ten houses— five in the rural area and five in the former urban area—for which the Cork Board of Health proposed to provide a pump on condition that the urban area would contribute 50 per cent. of the cost.

The commissioner acting for the Passage West urban district did not see his way to accept the offer of the board of health.

Passage West has now been de-urbanised and I understand that the county manager now proposes to provide the pump.
