Vol. 88 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Fuel Supplies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that grave hardships are being imposed upon the poor of Cashel, and on farmers who require fuel for threshing, by the stopping of the sale of turf by South Tipperary County Council; and if he will take steps to see that the necessary amount of fuel, especially for the poor, will be made available in this area.

I understand that the stoppage of the sale of turf by the South Tipperary County Council was of short duration, and that the sale of turf has since been resumed.

I do not know whether the Parliamentary Secretary is Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance or Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government?

I can assure the Parliamentary Secretary that up to the day before yesterday the sale of turf was not resumed. I believe that it started again the day before yesterday. Although this area is near a turf-producing district, there is a greater scarcity of turf in it than in any other area in Tipperary. I want an assurance now that all turf to which the county council has access will be made available to the people on the spot.

That is certainly not the question on the Order Paper.
